Endless Highway
“...Their playing displays passion, a feel for what traditional bluegrass audiences want to hear, and a presentation that is fresh and exciting.” Bluegrass Unlimited, July 1997
“...strong lead singing, a good bluegrass pulse to the rhythm, and some outstanding instrumental work, all done in a time-proven traditional Bluegrass feel and style.” Bluegrass Unlimited, March, 1996
“A third generation bluegrass band to be around for a long time...Keep it up, guys!!!”
Larry Rice
Endless Highway plays a unique style of driving, traditionally-oriented bluegrass. In addition to performing in front of enthusiastic crowds at the Withlacoochee Bluegrass Jamboree, the Florida Folk Festival, and the Wings and Strings Festival among many others, Endless Highway was the winner of the 1994 local Pizza Hut Bluegrass Showdown and then travelled to Hattiesburg, Mississippi to compete in the Southeast Regional Showdown where they finished second. These appearances soon led to an affiliation with Mid-Knight Records and the release of their debut recording in 1996. A Showcase spot at the IBMA convention in Owensboro, Kentucky soon followed. One listen will serve notice that Endless Highway has arrived well-armed and ready to serve up some powerful music.
Endless Highway is:
Gabe Valla
Gabe plays guitar, sings lead and baritone vocals, and contributes a lot of great original material to the repertoire of Endless Highway. Gabe won the 1992 Merle Watson Memorial flatpicking championship after playing guitar for only 2 years. As would many bluegrass guitarists, he credits Tony Rice with being his biggest influence. Gabe has used that foundation to develop his own style and his playing is some of the more original that you will hear. He has recorded on numerous sessions for radio and television and also played on and co-produced Larry Rice's “Notions and Novelties.”
Greg Turner
Greg plays mandolin. He has been playing bluegrass for over half his lifetime. Greg grew up with bluegrass through his father's gospel band and started playing as a young teenager by learning from tapes of his father's mandolin lessons with Larry Rice. His playing matured during his 9 years of travelling with the Bluegrass Parlor Band and occasionally with other bands in the Bradenton area. He is well-known for the incredible tone and taste in his playing and is widely regarded as the best mandolinist in Florida and one of the best in the country.
Mike Hyde
Mike plays bass and sings lead, baritone, and tenor vocals. He began playing bluegrass on guitar in his hometown of Hattiesburg, Mississippi with Sweet Dixie. After his graduation from Southern Mississippi University, his job as a furniture salesman brought him to Gainesville where he met Gabe and later Greg and Scott at festival jam sessions. Within a couple of years he joined Greg and Scott in the Bluegrass Parlor Band as the bass player. He now supplies the rock-solid bass foundation for Endless Highway.
Scott Anderson
Scott plays banjo and sings lead, tenor, and baritone vocals and also writes original material for Endless Highway. Scott Anderson was born in Palatka, Florida on January 26, 1965. A self-taught musician, singer, songwriter, and amateur photographer, pharmacist and Little League baseball coach, Scott has been playing banjo and guitar for over 20 years and also plays mandolin and bass. He began his serious musical career on banjo and guitar with First Light, a gospel group in his hometown of Palatka. In 1989, he joined the Bluegrass Parlor Band as a bass player and later moved over to banjo. In 1993, he helped found Endless Highway and with that band has performed throughout the Southeast, landed a coveted IBMA showcase spot, and produced one critically-acclaimed recording. In 1999, he began performing with Gentle River. In March of 2001 he recorded his first solo project "Rivers" featuring some of his original tunes and some of the finest acoustic musicians on the planet. In 2004, Scott was asked to join The Jim Hurst Band to play banjo and provide harmony vocals. With Jim, Scott has travelled all over the U.S. and as far away as Ireland, playing shows at many wonderful theatres and festivals in a number of exciting locales. All the while, he has also continued to play shows and festivals with The Scott Anderson Band as well as with the Grace UMC Praise Band. In 2008 he began performing in a duo with his daughter Amanda. Scott has also performed or recorded with Vassar Clements, Larry Rice, Byron Berline, Adam Steffey, Clay Hess, Chubby Wise, Allen Shadd, Bill Grant and Delia Bell, Blue Angel, Chief Jim Billie, George Custer, Sno Rogers and the Naples Philharmonic Orchestra (yes, with a banjo!) among others. Scott has been featured in Banjo Newsletter, and writes for the magazine as well, including interviews with Tony Trischka, Bill Evans, and Béla Fleck.
